Hot Tinting: A Unique Process for Brass Artifacts
As is well known, most brass metals used in everyday life are golden-yellow in color. However, some brass artifacts display a wide range of vibrant hues. These items feature bold, vivid colors and rich, diverse designs.
The stunning colors seen on these pieces are achieved through a process known as hot tinting. This technique involves using a flame spray gun along with specially prepared chemicals to induce a chemical reaction on the surface of the brass. The result is a brilliant array of colors that adorn the product’s surface.
Hot tinting can create a variety of colors, including black, red, white, antique bronze, silver, blue, and aged effects, among others. Additionally, once the surface treatment is properly done to prevent oxidation, the colors will not fade over time.
The hot tinting process offers several advantages: it allows for a wide spectrum of colors to be applied to brass surfaces, reduces the cost of coloring, and—most importantly—greatly enhances the artistic and cultural value of the finished pieces.
